Is Manukau a good place to live?
Manukau City Centre was built, not grown. Wikipedia's history says Manukau City Council formed in 1965, bought the land in 1966 for a civic and commercial centre, and opened the mall in October 1976 and its own building in 1977. Hayman Park sits next to the bus and train stations and reopened on 25 April 2026 after the Puhinui Stream was restored, with a 1.3 km path, a playground and a skate park. Manukau Library is at 3 Osterley Way. The trade-off is housing: the suburb is mostly commercial or rural land, with residential streets mainly in Puhinui East.
Which schools serve Manukau?

An address is not an enrolment zone, so check the school's zone before you buy: most state schools here have one, and the Ministry of Education explains how zones work. How do you get around from Manukau?
Manukau Station is the end of the East West line, which AT says runs from Swanson to Manukau. AT's AirportLink connects Manukau Bus Station, Puhinui Station and Auckland Airport every 10 minutes from 4:30am to 12:40am, 7 days a week. Bus 33 runs at high frequency between Papakura Interchange and Ōtāhuhu Station via Great South Road, and bus 365 runs hourly to Papakura via Porchester Road.
